INTRODUCTION
This is my first published book: a collection of my rambling thoughts on the topic of “waiting on God.”
I almost titled the book differently. I was going to call it: “Slowpokes, Drifters, Popcorn & Pariahs.” I assigned these unsavory labels to great men in the Bible that had to wait on God—such as Abraham, David & my favorite—Joseph: you’ll see that I designated a lot of ink to his story. The popcorn bit will reveal itself later.
The purpose in labeling these great men as such was not to drag them down to a lower level per say. As a modern-day believer, I feel unworthy to “latch” even “the shoes” of any of these great men. I did, however, want to focus on some of the low points that transpired in each of their lives—in between the promise and the blessing. There were dark valleys they had to navigate —“no-man’s-land”—where they more closely resembled slowpokes, drifters and pariahs than patriarchs, princes and kings.
There’s a lot of lessons and encouragement to mine from their lives. Thousands of years later, these characters have been such a blessing to me as I studied them in the Bible. In sharing their stories—and a few of my own exploits, I hope to bring encouragement to people in the same position.
Although every one of these men was a “late bloomer,” by societal norms, they actually bloomed right on time from God’s point of view. In terms of waffles, you could say they spent much of their lives “half-baked.” By waiting on the "Maker" —God, each one of them found their “groove,” finished “firm” and ended up “golden.”
